SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 15

Declaring Tuesday, March 11, 1997, Children's Day.
Whereas, The foundation of a humane and just society is the
people's willingness to work together for the good of its
children; and
Whereas, The state of West Virginia has a population of
429,400 children; and
Whereas, Children and their welfare are important to the
betterment of the state of West Virginia as they are our greatest
natural resource; and
Whereas, Children in the state of West Virginia are in need
of health care, family support, day care, shelter, food and
clothing; and
Whereas, It is the duty of all West Virginia citizens to search out opportunities to make a difference in the lives of
West Virginia's children through assuring that all children in
the state have access to health care, family support, day care,
shelter, food and clothing; and
Whereas, The Coalition for West Virginia's Children is working to promote the well-being of West Virginia's children
through the "Stand for Children" campaign that will ensure that
West Virginia's children are cared for and able to grow up to be
productive citizens; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That Tuesday, March 118, 1997, be declared Children's Day in
the state of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate encourages all citizens to
recognize the importance of our children; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor.
